Re: Mt Alma 10th & 11th April

Didnt know you were on these forums Brendan :)
I imagine you'll be the quickest of the three.

Itll be interesting to see how Damian goes compared to Ken though.
Quite closely matched cars i think.

Wish i could have entered... damn wedding :(
Oh well, we'll be there to spectate on the Sunday (its our next club cruise).

Re: Mt Alma 10th & 11th April

Hi Brendan, will be great to meet you and Ken! I had a chat to Ken at toyoshow, really nice guy.

and watching that red Celica in Classic Adelaide has been my highlight in previous years (except last year)!! on the side of the road for hours, and then i can hear that classis Celica exhaust in the distance, then it roars past, and i spend the next hour going "did you see that?" and "did you hear that?" and "f**ken awesome!"

Mark - i think i'll be the slowest of the 3 with my 57.8kw of raw power :D
and with new plugs i might even make 65kw.

not in it to win it, in it to have a really fun weekend with my baby, and NOT do this (touch wood!)

Re: Mt Alma 10th & 11th April

That was a very nasty crash :(
Made worse by the fact it was a 5yr build, and had only just been finished.

Or this... he was very lucky not to break through the fence and slide down into the gully.

Re: Mt Alma 10th & 11th April

Hey Mark, yep will be great to see the celicas out there, will be going out to beat my personal best and have plenty of fun :D Nice work with the camera too!

Should be much better as last year i was a tad cautious as it was the first time i had run the car after the Mt Gambier 'incident' . hense the green guard.

Hey damian, dad did say he saw your car and had a chat with you at toyoshow. Will be great to catch up with you too, ill be keen to check out your beast!

My car is pretty much ready to go but if time permits id like to fit a piggyback ecu and hit the dyno to extract a few more horsies before then. Need all the grunt available to get motoring up that hill!

Re: Mt Alma 10th & 11th April

got temporary permit today from motor reg to drive at mt alma, and only at mt alma. :D $50 thanks for coming. :( they would NOT let me drive it down there and back, and were very hesitant to even let me use it for the event!

sup regs mention NOTHING about car needs to have rego on it or a permit. :?

the hint was in the sup regs where it says at scrutineering need to present cams licence, cams log book, drivers licence, car club card, and car rego / permit for road registered cars, which seems to imply i do not need rego if my car is not road registered.

lucky i had that thought last night and made some calls today, or i wouldn't have been a happy man on Sat morning down at Mt Alma...

I have written to the Secretary letting them know they should make it clearer, like the Classic Adelaide sup regs:
4.1.4 All vehicles shall be registered for use on public roads. State Authorities, Concessional or Conditional Registration or South Australian Temporary Road Permits will be allowed. However, the onus is on the competitor to ensure all statutory requirements relating to the use of the Concessional/Conditional Registration or Temporary Road Permit have been met.

Re: Mt Alma 10th & 11th April

I dont understand....

Obviously your car needs Road or Rally reg for Classic Adelaide as you need to drive between stages on public roads.

Mt Alma is a single location on a closed road... so why do you need Road or Rally reg for that??
The only reason you would want road reg is so you fit into a specific category.

Re: Mt Alma 10th & 11th April

yeah i'm of the same opinion as you, however, the event secretary told me today she could not and would not let me run without rego or a permit. she also told me the regs do state I need rego / permit. I can't find it in there. maybe they intended to put it in there. but I can't find it

it's all good, but only because I found out about it today. hopefully i'm the only idiot caught out.

strange it wasn't picked up in my application

Very weird.
I would be talking to someone on Saturday about that.

Re: Mt Alma 10th & 11th April

Even though the road is closed for the event it's still a public road. Like when they do the other rally stuff, they close the roads off but they're still public roads. I was under the impression that's why rally cars (and some circuit?) need to have road registration or the cams rally plate thingo.

Re: Mt Alma 10th & 11th April

a road can be closed and conditions published in the government gazette, stating what rules do and do not apply. do the floats have rego for the pageant each christmas?

Actually... i think the floats do have road reg.
I seem to remember number plates on some of them.

Re: Mt Alma 10th & 11th April

yeah thinking about it last night, i think you're correct, they do have rego or a permit.

like Hamza said, could you imagine a float on the brake test rig? ha! gold! :D

i guess they get someone from the police to go down to where the floats are and check them.

but anyway, when roads are closed and the Government gazettes them, they can state which road rules do and do not apply. ie: pedestrians allowed on the road, speed limit 10kph, etc. I swear i've seen one where they state vehicles do not have to comply with the road traffic act? i definately seen ones where passengers do not have to wear selt belts (pageant).

i could be wrong... (it's been known to happen!) :D

and the more i think about it, the more it seems i would need some sort of rego, but the regs really don't make it clear. at Monarto the other weekend for instance, even though it is private property, it is used by the public, so there is an argument that normal road rules apply (at least that's what we get taught in tafe for Conveyancing. especially applicable for strata / community tilte properties, where the driveway is on private land, but the road traffic act does still apply.) yet we were able to drive unregistered vehicles at monarto

and what about clipsal? public roads. do the v8's have a permit? or is that taken care of by an act of council or state legislation

starting to get off topic...
