2T-G issue, rpms drop on gas

Postby cksmoke » Tue Jan 24, 2017 9:59 am

Hello,

I am new to this forum. I have a problem with my Celica and noone seems to know what it is, so internet is my friend.

My Celica is a TA22 with a 2T-G engine.

The problem started small. I went on standard rpms for some time and suddenly I press the gas and the rpms didn't rise. After a while driving the problem corrected it self and I went home.

Now I press the gas pedal and the rpms drop. I start the engine and I can keep it running only with the choke open. Also the same goes with the choke open. If I press the gas pedal the rpms drop.

Until now I have checked the dynamo, I changed the distributor, I installed an electronic fuel pump over my mechanical.
I have also tried another coil.

I don't know what else could it be. Could it be the fuel / air mixture? and if so, how do I correct it?

Thank you in advance for your help.

They are pretty old and dusty. I clean them from now and them. I recently sprayed them with carb cleaner, but nothing changed.

It (or they if your running two side drafts) will have to be removed and serviced.

An ID or pic of the carbs will help. I'm only saying carbs because you mentioned the choke use - manually regulating the fuel air mix to keep the engine running points to the carburetor.

I had the same problem on my 18RG.
It turned out being both accelerator pump bodys and diaphrams were shot
and primary jets were too small.

Guess I have to remove the carbs and clean them good.. they have been in the car for 30 years without any service done to them.
Thank you for your help!

Don't use typical run of the mill engine parts cleaner to clean the carb(s) as it will corrode alloy.
Two of my previous solex carbs where unusable and unserviceable because of that, which
was the cause of the damage to the accelerator pump body's.
