18r-c to 22re SWAP on RA23

Postby baronnn » Thu Jun 02, 2016 5:22 pm

Hey fellow celica lovers, i just sourced a 1985 Corona and the asking price is $800 for the whole thing, with a full functioning 22re block (200,000km) which i will obviously rebuild before fitting it.

I am contemplating buying it and using it as a donor car for my ra23. Wanted to have a chat with a few of you who could notify me of some pros and cons of doing this, if any? Also if anyone has done this conversion previously would love to get some advise before i go out and buy it.

PS can i fit everything from the corona into the celica; engine and gearbox yeas but could i swap the diff if i shortened it?

The mounts will line up but the sump will foul on the cross member, unless you use the corona cross member big headache if you can not weld or find a hilux sump and pick up

well i have bought the whole corona so i can take the cross member from the corona and use that sump as well, would that solve the issue?
PS. by any chance have you done this or a similar swap before?

As swan86 said, the corona xmember wont bolt in, and will be a heap of effort to make it fit (lots of cutting & welding).
Find yourself that Hilux sump & oil pickup. May be difficult to find, but *far* easier than modifying the xmember.
... i cant remember which model Hilux it needs to be from. Swan86?

Early to mid 90s 2wd hilux far easier than cutting and shutting the cross member
Most 4wd wreckers should be able to find one for a few hundred
